Hello,
I have an IBM thinkpad laptop and the FN key appears to be locked and there is no lock button. I have tried every combination I have found to try to unlock it. When I initially log in to the computer, the FN key doesn't appear to be on or isn't an issue and I am using alpha keys that once I am logged in come up as numbers. Any suggestions?

This sounds like the "Num Lock" feature is turned on. Find the function key marked NumLck and press it together with the Fn key. That should toggle off the feature.
Good Luck
