Adding wireless in addition to cable internet

Hello, My son just got an iPod Touch. It connects wirelessly but our house internet is cable. We have a switch that splits four ways with ethernet cables around the house. Can I use one of the switch ports and attach a wireless hub or other transmitter?

A switch does not split an internet connection. You must have a router. You should replace your current Switch/router with a wireless router. Having two routers creates problems you don't want to deal with and there is little or no difference in price.
