Hello,
I am trying to get my Toshiba satellite 3000 to boot, but all I get is the red toshiba logo and it goes to black screen with the flashing _ at the top left hand corner of the screen. I can hear the fans working, and some other noises which tells me that it's working but nothing else. I used to get the windows XP logo then it would go to safe mode, which I then used safe mode, then all this text would come up, (bios) I think? and it would just freeze. I would do this several times with the same results. Now all I get is the red toshiba logo, and nothing else. All I want to do is retrieve my files and transfer them to an exteranl hard drive and be done with the laptop.
Can anyone please help me.

Try to do system restore. once you turn on the laptop, kep on pressing F8 immediately to go to advanced options then select safe mode and try to do system restore from there. If Advance Options won't show.. last option is to do system recovery..but since you have important files that are saved in your HDD, you can try to remove the HDD and make connect it to another computer, and make sure to set it as a slave drive for you to get your files. hope this works...
