easy RJ-47 (Ethernet/LAN) cable that came with the modem connected directly to the LAN port on the laptop. The cable only fits in one port on the laptop. If you can't find a port that fits - this must be an old laptop that lacks the port. Comcast also offers a USB connection in some/most of their modems. then its a USB cable (didn't come with the modem) from the modem to any USB port on the laptop.
