Hello,
I just purchased a used Toshiba Satellite laptop A55-S1064 running Windows XP. During startup there is a message that reads " the file or directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACjavpoxyi.dll is corrupt and unreadable. Please run Chkdsk utility". What does this mean? And where do I begin to fix this problem? The laptop then turns itself off and starts again, over and over.

You have a file that can't be read. This could be the first stage of a hard disk failure or just because the PC was powered off while updating this file. Chkdsk is a Windows utility program that reads the hard disk and can fix these types of errors (by erasing the file). The PC should have restarted and run Chkdsk before it goes into Windows. About the only user option is to get into "Safe Mode" by depressing F8 with the power off and holding down the F* key until Windows boots into safe mode. At that point you can run Chkdsk and other programs that MIGHT fix the problem.
Can you return the PC? This is your best option.
