getting macbook on 56 inch bravia screen Closed

Hello, i bought a dvi to hdmi cable and the little thing that plugs into my macbook that connects to that and when i connect it i see the backdrop screen of my macbook on my tv and can get mouse control on both displays but can't get my tv screen to mirror my macbook. it doesn't show ne of the icons or nething and when i got to itunes to play a movie the screen goes black. how do i remedy this?

Maybe you didn't set them up to mirror each other? Go into System Preferences->Displays and change their arrangement in the Arrangement tab.

If you cant mirror or dont want to, you can probably drag the itunes window of your laptop screen and onto the tv. then you should be able to maximize without a problem

Check your screen settings on the Sony for the hdmi port you are plugged into.  Under "display area" it should be set to "Full Pixel" to display your dock and menu bar properly.
