My desktop disappeared??

I WAS UNINSTALLING SOME PROGRAMS THAT WEREN'T NEEDED AND MY PC NEEDED TO RESTART FOR THE REMOVAL WOULD BE COMPLETE, I CLICKD ON RESTART AND WHEN I LOG IN AGAIN NOTHING SHOWED UP BUT AN EXPLORER FILE AND NO START MENU, DESKTOP ICONS, OR BACKGROUND, BUT THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO GET ONLINE TO LOOK FOR HELP, AND MY PC DOESNT HAVE VIRUSES, MAY SOMEONE TELL ME WHATS WRONG?

A LITTLE knowledge can get you in deep dodo. I would start from the Vista DVD and take the repair option. After that you next option is to re-install Vista.
