Cd/dvd icon disappearing

Hello,
I am having Compaq nx9040 laptop, in "my computer" cd/dvd icon disappeared suddenly, i have checked in device manager there is no cd/dvd icon name, also i have checked in BIOS, there i can notice floppy drive description, hard Drive description, but no cd/dvd description.only i can see atapi cd/dvd name.
what may be the reson?
please help me.

Dear Prashanth,

This might be occurring due to the fact that you have some viruses on your system. Please carry out a virus scan and have it removed.
