Psu question

Hello,
actually i have a very strange question in my mind.
can anyone tell me whether a 20 pins psu would suite in a 24 pins motherboard?
i guess the answer is no but i have tried one yesterday and it works perfectly there is four pis which are not connected but the computer works perfectly..
so my question is that is there any risk with it that it fries my motherboard or the psu?

as long as you don't install a video card which needs a large amount of current or use other plug-in cards you should be OK. The extra plugs provide higher current (12 volt) for these cards and very high power CPU's.
