New download of IE7 won't connect

Hello,
I reinstalled all my software on my Xp laptop. All went fine. I could use IE (original version, circa 2003?) and email, no sweat. Upgraded to SP2 and IE 7. Linksys shows connection but when I initiate IE it says 'connecting' but never is able to connect. My other laptop, macbook, working normal. I hate the thought of reinstalling the old software again. Is there something I can do without reinstalling?

just try to download and install this hotfix and afterwards try to see if its ok :
