Before System Restore, back up first?

Hello everyone,

Toshiba laptop. Windows Vista. A hard object fell on it and it only works in safe mode. I disabled everything from msconfig and it worked. Now I'm about to do a system restore. I have a lot of files (documents, etc.) Should I copy them to an external drive first as a backup? Or will this interfere with the system restore?

Dear Sir,

There might be the possibility for you to lose some files while carrying out a system restore and it will be reccomended to have the specific files backed up.
