Formatting a WD Elements 1.5 TB Drive for Mac

Hello,
I just bought a Western Digital WD Elements 1.5 TB External hard drive, and I'm running a MacBook Pro with OS X Version 10.6.2. I'm wondering how I reformat the hard drive, which comes from the factory formatted for PC's. I'm not very computer savvy, so if someone could run me through this step by step it would be much appreciated.

thanks , very helpful ... mind you , the Snow Leopard recognised that the hard drive was there , and asked anyway ... smart machine :-)
