Sims stopped working after 3 monthes

When I first started playing sims 3 (3 months ago) it played fine, now it crashes my p.c. in less than a minute. I tried calling for support but all I got was a recording that hardly gave any information. I'm wanting to get an exchange but am concerned that this might happen again. Does anyone have any suggestions?
