The laptop is running Vista and has wireless routing capabilities in addition to Ethernet port. The tower is running XP, has Ethernet port but no wireless routing capabilities. I need to use the tower's huge HDD to backup the laptop (and visa versa). What would be the easiest way to do that? I am willing to spend some money on a good easy to use router, crossover cable, etc.
Thanks for your help.

a crossover cable is the fastest and cheapest method. You can read about networking at this web site:
