Notebook doesn't register earphones

I plug my ear phones into the headphone jack, and my notebook doesn't know it's there.
I'm using an Acer Aspire One 531. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Hi there,

Are the drivers installed on laptop?Do you get sound off the laptop speakers?Please give more information.

Yeah, i'm able to get sound off the laptop speakers, and what drivers would i need then? As it worked before, but suddenly stopped working.
