HDMI Sound shows Not Plugged In

Hey guys,
I have a sony VAIO laptop with windowa 7, I have connected it by HDMI cable, the display is great but the sound is coming from my laptop only, I went to the control panel - sound, it shows that the HDMI cable is not plugged in.
What shall i do???????

get a audio jack chord to get sound with the hdmi cable you already have or buy a better quality hdmi cable.
