Help my sims 3 wont work!!!

I installed sims 3 then it came up and i clicked start then it said (on a mac) would you like to download and update blah blah etc. i clicked no then i clicked play and it said the same thing and i click no then it quit so i went back on and clicked play and said yes to the update thing and after 1hr it finished downloading and i tried to go back into the game and it saud Application not responding and every time i try to do it it says the same thing. What do i do????
