Black laptop screen

Hi
My laptop screen appears blank until a light is shone directly onto it and then the icons appear and it works fine - just cant' see very much - is there something I can do to fix it?

HI there,

Does it work perfectly in safe mode?Have you tried?Please give more information on the issue ,how was this occurred and last time it was working fine.

How do i know if its in safe mode??? It first happened a few weeks ago and has been the same since - it works fine but unless a direct light is shone on the screen nothing can be seen
