First disconnect the new hard drive and see if you an get into the BIOS.
Report back with the results.

This doesn't sound good. You might have a motherboard problem or video card problem. There are just too many things that might have gone wrong. At this point you should have a professional PC repairman look at it. If it is an older computer it might be cheaper and faster to just buy a new one.
Didn't find the answer you are looking for?

I actually just went into Fry's and asked the PC tech what he thought. He also suggested that it might be either the video card or motherboard. So I just bought a new motherboard with built on video card (I'm not a huge gamer). We will see how that goes.

Ok, we just installed a new hard drive, new motherboard with built on video card and 2 new sticks of RAM and we are still getting a black screen. Any more suggestions? Please ?? It's like the monitor cable isn't responding.

Just plugged in a different monitor, (the one I'm using right now), and it still didn't work.

What's left to replace? The CPU and/or the power supply? Maybe it's time to cut and run or take it to Fry's and let them hit it with a hammer for a while.

We are thinking that it is a defective motherboard because Fry's is notorious for that. So we are going to take it back and exchange it and see what happens.
