Hello,
A couple days ago my computer started acting funny. It started making whirring noises and wasn't always the fastest. One morning I got on and was able to check my email and that was about it. The screen froze and wouldn't let me reboot. I had to cold boot it. But after I did that I couldn't even get to the Windows start screen and it oly booted a couple times. I kept getting weird lines and dots on my screen too. Under the advice of a computer tech friend I went and bought a new hard drive and installed it but I'm still having the same problem with my computer refusing to boot. I can't even get a BIOS screen. Any suggestions?

First disconnect the new hard drive and see if you an get into the BIOS.

Report back with the results.

This doesn't sound good. You might have a motherboard problem or video card problem. There are just too many things that might have gone wrong. At this point you should have a professional PC repairman look at it. If it is an older computer it might be cheaper and faster to just buy a new one.

I actually just went into Fry's and asked the PC tech what he thought. He also suggested that it might be either the video card or motherboard. So I just bought a new motherboard with built on video card (I'm not a huge gamer). We will see how that goes.

Ok, we just installed a new hard drive, new motherboard with built on video card and 2 new sticks of RAM and we are still getting a black screen. Any more suggestions? Please ?? It's like the monitor cable isn't responding.

Just plugged in a different monitor, (the one I'm using right now), and it still didn't work.

What's left to replace? The CPU and/or the power supply? Maybe it's time to cut and run or take it to Fry's and let them hit it with a hammer for a while.

We are thinking that it is a defective motherboard because Fry's is notorious for that. So we are going to take it back and exchange it and see what happens.
