Need help...having a problem with my audio

I am experiencing a problem with my music playing while I am trying to do other applications on my computer. For example. I will be playing my music in any of my many music players, it doesn't matter which one. Whether its windows media player or winamp, etc. Basically when I click on anything other than the music player and my mozilla firefox or the music starts breaking up and getting all distorted. And it also gets hella slow. Someone please help me. Im not too great when it comes to these complicated computer problems. I appreciate anyone's help, and thanks.
