I have no sound on my pc except on skype

I have a windows xp with bose sound system aka creative sound whatever. i start up my computer no sound. i do ANything on the interent, itunes no sound. but when i start skype? it works.. anyone help? i did all that device manager, soundgame controller stuff, and it says my device is working properly. whats wrong?
