Vista to XP file transfer

Hello,
I have several gigabytes of information on my work laptop, a newer vista one, that in need to put on my personal laptop, an older XP machine. I need step by step instructions to complete this task.

is your xp laptop have a wifi?

Yes. I have created and connected the two computers together with a network (without a router) but i cannot find the computer connected to the network.
