Hello,
I need two things. I want to format my PC and remove Windows Vista entirely. Then re-install with the recovery cd's that I downloaded when I first bought my pc. I have an HP Pavillion dv9500. For some reason my pc isn't recognizing the cd/dvd so, it's gonna make trying to reinstall Vista. Please help me.

Thank you for your reply. Fact is; in opening the device manager I'm not showing a cdrom drive. Now what? :-(

Hi Wray
Try: control panel, Add programs and do a search for new hardware. If it does not find the cdrom it may be bad connection remove the drive only a couple of screws (check manual) and refit be careful not to force and bend pins. If this does not cure the problem try another cdrom and see if that one is recognized if it is your one is u/s they are cheap enough to buy. I have about 4 here in the UK I will give you one if your around the Southend-on-Sea area

I'm running Windows Vista. Sadly this OS doesn't have the search for new hardware. I have an HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook. Would I need to have another cdrom from a laptop to see if it works? I have an older model desktop PC.

Hi Wray
Afraid so the desktop cdrom is to big you could pick one up on ebay I have seen them for less than £10. You may have to change the bracket on the back if it is one off of a different notebook.
If you have to change it upgrade to a dvd/cd rewriter bit more expensive but you can write and play dvds and cds

Hi Wray
Forgot to mention you could use your desktop cdrom as an external unit you need an adapter like this one on ebay.
