Swap-out hard drive on a 64 bit machine

Good Morning,

Have a new HP laptop running Win7, 64bit. I want to swap out the SATA drive and run a VISTA 32 bit for personal use, but am having problems loading the OS from my install CD. Do I need a 64-bit install for the new drive ? Many thanks............

What do you mean by swap sata?please elaborate for further help on it.
