HP laptop screen black out

Hello,
I have a HP2500 laptop. I was using is then all of the sudden it black out. My plug was not connect so I thought that it might ran out of battery. Then plug it on and reboot the laptop but only the power light was on, battery light was really dim, and drive light is out too. I try to take out the turn the laptop off, take out the battery, and restart but still nothing. I even try to just us the laptop with out the battery and the cord plug in but it's still the same. What does this mean and how can I fix this problem? Help please..
