Did you activate the RCA input port on the TV through the TV's menu ?
A RCA connection to a TV is not going to give you an acceptable picture even if it worked. You need to get a real computer monitor.
About the only upgrade you can get is to add memory. Depending on the current configuration you might need to remove and discard the current memory so you can add larger memory modules.
