Trying get files off my old seagate drive

Hello,
I am trying to get files off my old desktop hard drive and onto my laptop. I purchased a SATA USB 2.0 to IDE Cable (came with a power adapter) hooked it to my old drive and the loptop can only find the device..not the drive..can you help?

Hi there,

Remove the jumper from the hard drive then connect to device and to laptop,it will be detected.
