Dell D830 wont boot with hard drive

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude D830 with SATA hard drive that wont boot with the hard drive inserted. I can boot from Windows CD (Dell recovery media) only if I pull the hard drive. If the hard drive is seated the system finishes the BIOS boot and then it halts to a black screen; no cursor, nothing. This system booted normally until earlier today, nothing added, etc. System will run diagnostics but no errors.

Any ideas?
