Hardrive is showing not connected

Hello,
I HAVE A PURCHASED A SEAGATE HARDRIVE OF 500 GB. BUT IT IS SHOWING AS NOT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER WHEN I TRY TO BOAT IT .I HAVE CHECKED ALL MY CABLES AND EVERYTHING BUT NOT WORKING ...PLZ HELP

hi ; I wasted a week end searching bios, chipset and motherboard sites (full of traps to make you spend money) and found the answer at the disk manufacturer site; modern disks are to fast for older bios and XP; all I had to do was put a jumper on to slow the disk down (all expalined on the disk FAQ page) and BINGO ! end of problem .

enable the disk in "disk management"


Click on Start>Control Panel>Administrative tools>Computer management>Disk Management

and enable the disk
