I want to have my dell laptop restored to factory settings but i want to know if my files will be deleted while carrying out this restore to factory settings.

Hi there,
Definitely all files will be deleted during the recovery process to factory default settings and a backup is recommended also if you have a partition you can transfer data to it and it will not be deleted from this,
