Microphone works but I cannot record

Hello,





My microphone works according to my sound -> recording tab. When I speak into it there is a spike in the voice bar which I believe clearly shows that the microphone is fully functional and the computer can register the mic. But when I try to record my voice or talk in a game the mic does not work. I've checked to see if the mic is muted or anything simple like that but it does not seem so. What can I do to fix this problem?
