How to connect two laptop

i want to connect my two laptop's using lan wire. one is with XP and other with the vista. could to tell me that, i just want to transfer files and movies. does it need two wires?. plese tell me in simple steps as i am not quiet acquainted with the computer lingo. i would be grateful if you mail me the solution at me mail. thmks very much.. keep up the good work. god bles..
