All icons on my laptop missing or disabled

Hello,

I have a problem with the icons on my laptop. All the icons logo don't show up but only display the mp3 logo. When i click on the individual icon, it said need to open with an application of my choice. I see nothing wrong with the default setting for all programs in use. Even when i install a new program or copy files on my laptop, they won't open but instead prompt me to open with an application of my choice. I really tried very hard to solve this problem but to no avail.
