How to get the red keys working

Hello,
I'd like to know how to get the red symbols on some of the keys to work. (ie. the euro sign on the 3 key, or the cent symbol on the 4 key) I've tried pressing shift, function, and control, and in various combinations but I can't seem to get it to work. If anyone knows how to help me, that would be great.

Press on Shift + the key at same time.
