Rever files

Hello,
I am have problem to log in to my computer. Error message with blue screen. Contact the pc company.Done chkdsk /r. But still not working. I have been asked to re-install the windows xp again. But chances of losing my data files wiill be hi. I have been ask to contact the local tech for backup. Can any one help me on this before I re-install the windows.
