Just seen an earlier post and reply from Gavinemb re power settings in control panel.

go to Control Panel-Power Settings-Advanced, and set "Do Nothing" for the "Close Lid" option. I'm speaking for XP. on Win7 it may be a bit different but generally this setting should be in Control Panel and Power Options/Settings.
