My ipod wont turn on or read in tunes.

Hello,
i was charging my ipod touch and then i weent up stairs and came back down. i unpluggedit and it wouldnt turn on. i looked uo how to reset it it and tried to hold the on/off button and home button for awhile and it did nothing. i then plugged my ipod into the computer and thought i could maybe restore it but it didnt read in itunes what should i do? plz help!!!!
