Vista disk drive not reading

Hello, i am running a compaq notebook pc with vista programme. i cant get my disc drive to work. i put any disc in and it wont run or even show up anything on computer. put in disc and green light comes on and it sounds like its running, then zero happens. I just went a got aiomega protable disc drive and the start up disc wont even play on computer. help please

Hello,
Try this 1
Click on Start --> Run --> type regedt32 and press "Enter"
Registry editor will be opened.
Backup your registry by going to File --> Export and save the file with any name.
Now on the left side, navigate to the location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SYSTEM --> CurrentControlSet --> Control
----> Class ---> Click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
At right side delete these files if u find it
upper filters,lower filters,upper filters.bak,lower filters.bak and then restart your
PC.
