You should have included what phone you have to be more specific on solving the problem.
Anyway, if it's a Nokia brand, you could download and install to your computer the Nokia PC Suite installer (it's free) appropriate for the Nokia phone model. After installation, you can connect your phone to the computer via infrared, or bluetooth or cable and that's it. The Nokia PC Suite application installed in your computer will provide features you can do to browse and even connect your phone to the internet.
Just google for the Nokia PC Suite installer or visit Nokia's website.
