Question

Hello, I have a big counter srike problem: when I try to find online servers it appears this mesage:
Could not cantact master game server to retrieve server list.
Can anyone help me????

Go on to this website

then it says setti master server right click on it then click save link the save it to  your counte strike 1.6 folder (not cstrike), then go on platform\config\ save it there 

it may come up with counter strike source servers if its counter strike 1.6 but there is only a little

OOOOOK, I saved the SettiMaster thingy, but now, as soon as I launch CS, everything loads, and when I try to click Find Server nothing happens, I hear the click but nothing happens, nothing shows up, PLZ HELP!!!!

Hey man I used to get this too, but I figured out it was my Firewall that wasn't letting the server get to me. So I set hl2 to be a trusted program and now it works. OR you can just disable your firewall temporrily until ur done playing the game.

I have downloaded the master server file and its 328 bytes (File size) and I have it in the steam file aswel (Not sure if I should thoguht) and it still does not work.

i copied that masterserver.vdf file......its working but I can only see servers of latency above 200.....and most of them have "biohazard" as the game name....anything I can do to see servers below 100 like I used to..!!!???

it gives me only one or two cs servers , all others are of css
i cant get servers wid less latency

yes download a new version of game from www.cobraxs.com here I uploaded a latest V 35 game and a patch of V36 of Counter Strike Hope it will solve your Problem

when I go into counter-strike file and then platform there is no config file its a file that says severs and go into that and theres a severbrowser.dll  so where do I put the mastersever at in the sever file or over the sverbrowser.dll   please help if you can tky

i dont know if itll help you guys but it sure help me
after you've placed the master server thing in your directory
open your counter strike folder and launch "LAuncher"
enable online play and click on the game you wanna play

Im gonna post one more time. 

If you have steam , Just update your game. 

If you have non-steam : 

    1. Copy MasterServers.vdf to config\ directory 

       * Standalone: C:\games\Counter-Strike Source\platform\config\MasterServers.vdf  OR 

       * Steam: C:\Program Files\Steam\config\MasterServers.vdf 

    2. Make MasterServers.vdf read-only 

       * Right-click over MasterServers.vdf, select "Properties" and check "Read-only"

I tried everything I could...disabling my firewall, uninstalling norton, plugging my computer directly into my gateway (bypassing the router/switch), reinstallation, but the only thing that worked was installing CS into steam itself.  It didn't pick up that I had it installed so I had to download it through steam...800 MBs.  But it worked after that even though I already had the game installed.

Download and install Steam
Update it (should be automatic)
Click on "My Games"
If it says "Not Installed" next to Counter-Strike...
Right click Counter-Strike and select Install game

That's it!

you need to copy server.vdf file in \Valve\platform\config server will be shown

Ok, 
Go into you counter-strike folder > platform > Config then open Masterservers.vdf with notepad.  
Clear all of the text out and replace it with this: 
"MasterServers" 
{ 
        "hl1" 
        { 
                "0"

                        "addr"          "188.40.40.201:27010" 
                } 
        }

If u have a router need forward both ports from masterservers (27010 and 27011 now)

Hey, I had the same problem.  

If its CS1.6, then download steam....install it.  After you set it up; go to the "Add Non-Steam Game" button in the bottom left of the steam "games" section.  Add "cstrike.exe".  Then it should work, you'll have all of the steam servers with 50-90 ping.  

hope this works 

P.S. were any of the bad servers named "Balticum TV Server?"

hi I've got the solution. 
when u click on download masterservers.vdf on Setti it opens up some wierd stuff right?
copy the writing and paste it in ur masterserver.vdf in the cs directory under platform/config
(example: 
E:\CS Source\Counter-Strike Source\platform\config) by right clicking the masterserver.vdf and clicking edit.
replace the text in it.
save it as it asks and then change the file name from masterservers.vdf.txt to masterservers.vdf

If u have A problem in cs 1.6 saying could not contact to master server do this:::>
Download a file called masterserver.vdf it is easy u can download it from http://css.setti.info/masterserver/masterserver-instructions/
than paste that file in Cs file platform/config and paste there and overwrite the old one
ur work is done goto cs ur servers are showing..gud day

go to http://css.setti.info/servers/cs16/ , then copy the ip address of a server , open cs1.6, go to 'find servers'-> favourites->add server and paste the ip , you will be able to connect to the server.

I am still unable to find servers automatically, but the method above works .

You can download the Setti MasterServers.vdf file and put it in the config folder of your game. Do a Google search for it or if you don't want to do it manually try this patch:
