Why cant i sign in to ps network?

First of all it says ERROR cannot connect to ps network. Im supposed to be playing with my friend rite now so can someone tell me wth is going on?!?! Please make it asap i got a game to play people i didnt get a ps3 so that i cant play when i want to -.-

We just got it from the horse's mouth, the network is presently down for maintenance. It should be up in 24 hours.
