Computer will not boot up

Hello,
I need some help please. My laptop which has windows xp home media edition will go to a black screen with a error message of PXE-E61 . check media cable, then it says operating system cannot be found. Any help would be greatly appreacated! Thank-you

This could be a problem with a failed hard drive. I suggest you take it to a repair shop for diagnoses.

Thank-you for your suggestion, I was hoping that there was something that I could try to do. I have the original cd disc for rebooting windows xp and a external cd drive, but I could not figure out how to make it work. Thank-you again for you time
