AVG Linkscanner with IE8

Hello,

I recently intalled a trial version of AVG in advance of purchasing the full version. I do some business at home and need to use IE8 as opposed to IE9 to facilitate applications not currently available with Firefox or Chrome. I noticed that Linkscanner works with Firefox but not IE8. Are there settings for this on IE8? Do I need Linkscanner on IE8? Do I really need the full version of AVG, cost notwithstanding? Any input is most appreciated.
