sounds like you didn't install the drivers right
control panel>>system>>hardware tab>>device manager
look for any yellow?
under USB this tells you that you still need drivers, use disc that came with keyboard, also follow instructions , just as they say also if this is a cordless, look on bottom and find the reset button, press and wait 5-10 sec and a;; should be fine also USB items like to be install on same ports ever time, if that port doesn't try different one always good to keep old type keyboad around for wind these type problems come along, as you can be typing instructions on old one and hot swap USB one into place
