Do you have a volume icon in your taskbar?
Do you have any yellow signs in device manager related to PCI device,if yes then try to update it
How to enter device manager
Go to Start-Run-devmgmt.msc
or
Start-Right click on my computer-manage-device manager
Try Reinstalling your sound drivers
Last option may be a faulty sound card

The first thing to do is to reinstall your sound drivers. The best way is to go to the manufacturer website and install sound card from there.
