Laptop wont boot, lost power during updates

Hello, please, somebody help!!! while updates were installing for XP on my dell latitude I lost power]. Now the screen stays black unless I plug in the ac cord. And if it's plugged in and I let it boot if I unplug it the screen goes black, it doesn't shut down the screen just stays black
