Unable to start my new computer.

I purchased a new computer yesterday and was trying to set it up today. when tried start it all i could see was a black colored screen with a message saying " Reboot and select proper device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" . any body who can help me please do let me know, I'd very grateful to him.
