Help my dell inspiron E1505 black screen

Hello,

My dell inspiron E1505 laptop is stuck on welcome screen then goes to black screen. it won't let me hit F8 or F12 all it will do is go to set up. I did get it once to vga screen but not since. How can i perform any help or task manager or restore or run ms config if it won't even let me past the black screen. I use this for homebound school for my kids and am so desperate. I can't find my original xp cd to boot from there. Any suggestions, please help me!!!!
