Help switch to reg ltrs on Toshiba A210 lapto

Hello, I was typing a document and must have touched the wrong key because now when I type quotation marks or apostrophes in that document it prints the 'other language' character, that is the e with accent etc. I can't change it back by pressing the Red Alt Car button and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have a Toshiba Satellite A210-JA3. Please help. It is a story I am trying to write on my retirement gift computer. Thank you so much.
