ITunes cannot find my iTunes folder Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

I just bought the iPOD TOUCH.

I have iTunes 8X, but it won't open saying .. "The folder "i Tunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. 
The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder."

What should I do now?

press and hold on the shift key then run the Itunes , the menu will ask you to create new library , follow this , it will sort it out your problemo

Sorry, can someone explain more what to do? I tried it, created a new folder, moved the old files into it, but the tunes don't show up in my iTunes interface, and they won't sync to my iPod.   What files do you put in this new folder?  Just the music files?  The other folders as well?  Does it matter what you name it?  What do you do with the old folder?

Hi,
having an absolute nightmare with my ipod for the past month!! I bought a new laptop a month ago with Vista on, but my ipod just will not sync properly. Everytime I try to sync, it sync's about 600 songs and then the itunes/ipod just freezes, and when I disconnect it by pulling out the USB lead the same message as above pops up (ie. the folder cannot be found).
I have tried everything I could think of over the past month to try and get it working (reinstalling itunes a few times / holding shift & itunes, then choosing a library / making sure the path name is corret / trying to sync one song at a time etc etc etc) but nothing will work!!!
Might someone be so kind as to have any ideas as to what I need to do here??

So this still didn't work for me. I installed Itunes on someone elses laptop and it is not reading my ipod's music folder, saying it is synced with another computer. I don't want to erase my music :( I tried making a backup CD and I can't do anything without the computer reading my music files. Itunes will play the music straight from the ipod but it won't show me my library...WHAT DO I DO?!?!?! I'm ripping my hair out over this!!!!

Yeah,only problem is when you shift and open iTunes when you create the new folder it deletes EVERYTHING from your iTunes library,including your music,movies,ringtones and apps. Would have been nice to know before I followed this "solution"

Its not working for me, I am trying to fix this problem for the las 6 hrs. I am so frustated, I  don't know what to do....this is the msg. I get everytime I try to open my iTunes:  THE I TUNES APPLICATION COULD NOT BE OPENED. THE REQUIRED FOLDER CANNOT BE FOUND. I have windows vista, and I also have the "safari' I con. I am trying to get Christmas music for my Christmas party.

My iTunes 9 library filled up on my C: drive.  Following the instructions, I relocated it to my G: drive (1TB) and gave it the name of 'iTunes Library'.

It copied everything to the new location, and everything seemed to be OK.

Today, when I pluged in my iPod Touch (32g), told gave me a message (I wish I had written it down) to the effect that my iPod can only be sync'ed to one {I don't remember, sorry).

The problem is that both on iTunes and my iPod I've lost all my music, except for two recent purchases.  All the songs, podcasts, etc are present in the new folder, and iTunes shows that folder in the Preferences, but I can't see any of my content.

It seems like a simple problem, but...  H*E*L*P

I had the same problem as you guys and yes holding the shift key does work very nicely but after I fixed the Itunes problem I found I was having problems in other programes. I got an error that said "error 1606 can't find network 0 ". I found that a prog had changed all my settings for My Music, My Pics and My vids to 0 in the registry.  
Itunes could not find the My Music folder because the default had been changed in the registry. I had to go into the registry and change all of them.   
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders  
All the entries are "name of folder" REG_EXPAND_SZ %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\"name of folder"\"name of subfolder"  
These were all set to 0 so I changed them to the above.   
You can download a prog off Microsoft which will fix My Pictures but I had to change the others manually. The prog is Microsoft fixit 50356.msi.  
Hope this isn't too confusing you can e-mail if you need help with it all.

I tried this out and it works very well. But the real problem is that my registry had been changed by a prog and it put 0's in all of my registry entries for my music my pictures and my videos.
Have to use reg edit and change the entries back.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Change entries from 0 to REG_EXPND_SZ      %USERPROFILE&\My Documents\My Music.

Uh, no this does not work for pc at least. when the window pops up it doesn't just start moving the library. 
Maybe on a mac.
